Governor Cuomo Halts All Non-Essential Construction in New York
03.27.2020
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that all non-essential construction in New York must stop. This change in policy was made in response to the spread of COVID-19 across New York and the outcry from construction workers dealing with health risks on job sites.
The Governor has decreed that most residential and commercial building projects are temporarily off limits, effective immediately. Infrastructure and transportation projects will be allowed to continue, as well as emergency repairs, hospital building and work on affordable housing.
Until now, construction work has been classified as ‘essential’ and therefore, exempt from a state “pause” that ordered the shutdown of most workplaces.
