Michael Vardaro Presents at AIA National Convention
Zetlin & De Chiara is pleased to announce that Michael J. Vardaro will be presenting at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention on June 21, 2013 in Denver, Colorado.
Michael's interactive presentation entitled "A Case Study in Professional Ethics and Conduct: Understanding the Significance of Standing Tall," will examine how often decisions must be made in the face of competing ethical, business, and legal interests, and how such decisions can help define the public perception of a firm.
The case study pertains to work performed on the iconic Citicorp Center in Midtown Manhattan in 1977, where a potential crisis was averted through the actions of William LeMessurier, the Citicorp Center's structural engineer. Through an extraordinary course of events, LeMessurier made unexpected decisions that put the good of the community above his own professional status. In the face of impending ruin, LeMessurier rose above his mistakes and parlayed a terrible situation into one that now defines a positive legacy. LeMessurier's story, which ultimately helped to define him as a leader in the design community, provides valuable lessons about how today's architecture leaders must be proactive, unafraid to make unpopular decisions.
